Florida State remained undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference following a 1-0 road win against Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.
The Seminoles (9-2, 3-0) used Denya Castellanos’ 74th minute goal to put away the Orange (2-6-2, 0-2-1).
“Syracuse had a very good game plan and they executed it very well,” Florida State women’s soccer coach Mark Krikorian told Seminoles.com. “They made us rush and we missed too many passes and didn’t finish our chances. If that is going to be the case it is going to be hard to score goals. We will go back and keep working at and hopefully, we will get a little bit better.”
Florida State took 23 shots — as opposed to two for Syracuse. The reigning national champions only put nine of those shots on frame. Castellanos was the main culprit, placing just two of her seven shots on goal.
No. 6 Florida State hosts Pittsburgh (3-5-3, 0-1-2) on Oct. 5. The Panthers have allowed more goals (16) than any team in the ACC this season.
