Satellite Beach resident Ashlyn Harris records clean sheet
The United States women’s soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to 25 games following Friday’s 8-0 win in the CONCACF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The reigning world champions scored four goals in the first half and four more in the second to overwhelm the 53rd ranked team in the World.
Friday’s win in Houston clinched a berth in the semifinals. However, it’s worth noting the USWNT has never lost an Olympic qualifying and allowed only three goals in 20 Olympic qualifying matches.
Midfielder Lindsey Horan scored a hat trick. Her opener came in the third minute.
Lynn Williams, Rose Lavelle, Christen Press, Jessica McDonald and Tobin Heath also scored for the USWNT. Press’ 53rd international goal marked the third straight appearance with a goal.
From a Florida perspective, three Orlando Pride players were in the starting XI for the USWNT. Goalie Ashlyn Harris did not have to make a save in her Olympic qualifying debut. Meanwhile defenders Emily Sonnett and Ali Krieger both played 90 minutes in the win.
The USWNT faces Costa Rica on Monday night to close out group play. Costa Rica, by virtue of its wins over Panama and Haiti, also advanced to the semifinals. The United States trounced Costa Rica 6-1 in Jacksonville, Fla. on Nov. 10, 2019.
