Katie Stengel’s first appearance for her new club was against the club that traded her to the Bayou City.
Stengel was in the starting XI for the Houston Dash on Tuesday afternoon during the NWSL Challenge Cup. The 28-year-old who played at Viera High School, and collegiatley at Wake Forest, was on the right wing for the Dash in the team’s 3-3 draw against the Utah Royals.
Stengel assisted Shea Groom’s 67th minute goal to give the Dash a 3-1 advantage. She played 80 minutes before being substituted.
Houston held a two-goal lead when she was removed in favor of former Florida State forward Jamia Fields.
Stengel was the Utah Royals’ leading scorer in 2019 with six goals; but, she was traded for draft picks in the 2020 College Draft in January. Utah used the first of those picks to select Kate Del Fava. Del Fava made her professional debut in the 63rd minute.
Houston’s second match in the NWSL Challenge Cup will be against OL Reign on July 4.
