There will be a new champion in Florida’s largest classification this year. Boca Raton finished 8-2-2 and conceded 12 goals in 12 games, but the Bobcats were knocked out in the District 11-8A semifinals by Park Vista.
This year’s tournament may be wide open as two of the top five teams in the FHSAA’s final regular season rankings in the classification did not win their district, including the No. 1 ranked team in the state Port Orange Spruce Creek.
Region 1-7A, on paper, appeared to be the most challenging region in the state heading into the postseason. Eight of the top 14 teams in the classification were from Region 1 including Jacksonville Mandarin and St. Johns Bartram Trail.
Orlando Boone escaped from the pack to advance to its first state final in more than two decades in 2020. Don’t be surprised if another team makes a surprise run to the semifinals from the northern half of the state.
In the southern half of the state, a game worthy of a state semifinal will instead be a first-round matchup. Undefeated Miami Dr. Krop (8-0-1) will host a Weston Cypress Bay squad that is 7-3-1 and lost to Boca Raton in last year’s state semifinals.
