Golden Eagles capitalize on chances, improve to 17-2-1

Fleming Island advanced to its first regional final in seven years with a 3-2 win over St. Johns Creekside on Friday night’s Region 1-6A semifinal.
Kaitlyn Scherer scored two goals and Avery Upton added another to help the Golden Eagles improve to 17-2-1. Creekside (7-8-2) scored two goals in the final 14 minutes, via a Brenna Robinson pennalty kick and a Fleming Island own goal. The Knights could not find the equalizer.
Fleming Island will host Tallahassee Chiles (10-0-1) in the Region 1-6A final on Tuesday night. Chiles upset Niceville, the previously undefeated Eagles were the No. 1 team in Class 6A at the end of the regular season.
Chiles has conceded three goals this season, but has yet to play outside of Leon County because of the coronavirus pandemic. Fleming Island enters the Region 1-6A final with a plus-68 goal differential this season.
