Bears eliminate four-time state champion Oviedo in Region 1-7A final

St. Johns Bartram Trail won its fourth consecutive regional title on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over Oviedo.
Oviedo (15-2-1) dominated from the outset, but could not put the ball in the back of the net. When Bartram Trail (17-2) conjured early opportunities, the reigning Class 7A state champions put the ball away. Bartram Trail used first-half goals from Jori Follenweider and Avery Williams to win their 12th straight match.
Bartram’s winning streak includes victories over Class 6A semifinalist Fleming Island and Class 5A semifinalist Ponte Vedra. Bartram Trail will travel to Tampa Plant (18-1) for Friday’s Class 7A state semifinal. The contest is a rematch of a 2020 state semifinal the Bears won 2-1.
