The Florida Dairy Farmers announced the winners of the 2021 Girls Soccer Player of the Year on March 24. The winners from each of the six classifications will be eligible to earn Miss Soccer, which will be announced this week.
Here is a look at the Player of the Year winnners:
Quinn Ryan, Tampa Plant, Senior, Midfield, Class 7A Player of the Year
Led her team to an 18-2 record and a spot in the Class 7A semifinals by scoring 33 goals and adding nine assists. She signed with the University of South Florida.
Kiki Slattery, Venice, Senior, Midfield, Class 6A Player of the Year
Led her squad to a 16-4-1 record and the Class 6A state title by scoring 26 goals and posting 18 assists. The University of North Florida signee took, and converted, the opening penalty kick in the Indians’ win over Miami Lourdes in the state final.
Ava Rice, Lecanto, Senior, Midfield, Class 5A Player of the Year
She helped her squad to an 18-4-1 record and a spot in the regional semifinals by scoring 48 goals and adding 18 assists. She is an Old Dominion University signee.
Maddie Young, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons, Senior, Defender, Class 4A Player of the Year
She helped the Chiefs win the Class 4A state title by anchoring one of the state’s top defensive units, which allowed only nine goals in 15 games with seven shutouts. Her only goal of the season came in an 8-0 win over Cardinal Newman on Dec. 15. She is a University of Florida signee.
Kate Carnes, Lakeland Christian, Senior, Forward, Class 3A Player of the Year
Led her team to a 22-1-1 record and the Class 3A state title by scoring 27 goals and adding 15 assists. Her final goal of her career was the equalizer in the 57th minute of the state final. Her final assist sealed Vikings’ first state championship.
Jasmine Perez-Acosta, Fort Myers Canterbury, Senior, Midfield, Class 2A Player of the Year
Led her team to a 21-3-1 record and a spot in the Class 2A state championship game by scoring 42 goals and adding 20 assists.
The Florida Dairy Farmers also announced its coaches of the Year — the six coaches who led their teams to state championships in the pandemic-altered season. They are Jen Rodriguez, St. Johns Bartram Trail (7A); Gary Bolyard, Venice (6A); Dave Silverberg, Ponte Vedra (5A); Margo Flack, Cardinal Gibbons (4A); Jason Streets, Lakeland Christian (3A) and Mike Pickett, St. Johns Country Day (2A).
Rodriguez won the 2020 award, while Pickett has been named the statewide Coach of the Year in 2012, 2017 and 2018.
