The United Soccer Coaches poll recognized a pair of unbeaten women’s soccer teams from the Sunshine State in its latest rankings.
Florida State remained as the No. 1 team in the United Soccer Coaches Division I women’s poll. The Seminoles (11-0) are one of two unbeaten and untied teams in the 2021 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
Florida State received 28 of 34 first place votes. The Seminoles have been atop the polls all spring long after completing a fall season where it won the ACC regular season and tournament titles. The Seminoles are the No. 1 overall seed in the Division I tournament.
The Division II poll features a new No. 1. St. Augustine-based Flagler College moved up two spots to the top ranking.
The Saints (8-0-2) won the Peach Belt Conference tournament on April 10 to cap off an unbeaten season. Flagler earned the top-ranking for the first time in the program’s 26-year history.
Flagler’s season is complete. There will not be a NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Tournament this year.
“This ranking is the result of a lot of hard work by everyone associated with the program,” said Flagler head coach Ashley Martin. “Obviously, the current players and staff deserve the credit for this but achieving No. 1 would have been impossible without the commitment of our former players and staff.
“The 2020-21 season has been a challenge,” added Martin, “but our players worked and endured, which saw them win both available championships and now to be ranked No. 1. As a Flagler alum and coach this is a very proud day for me indeed.”
