Jacksonville University christened the young season with and emphatic win on Sunday afternoon at Southern Oak Stadium. Oliver Correa scored 23 seconds into the game and the hosts swam away from Wofford to record their first win of the season.
JU improved to 1-1 following a 5-1 win over the Terriers (0-2).
This time the Dolphins were the team that scored early and took control of the contest. Jacksonville lost its season opener to South Florida on Thursday night when the Dolphins stared down a two-goal halftime deficit. Sunday, JU high-pressed from the opening kick and repeatedly forced the Terriers into turnovers.
Reed Davis, the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, scored for the second time in as many games. His goal in the 20th minute was assisted by Jose Manzo.
Wofford’s Brandon Oddy scored his first goal of the season in the 24th minute. But, the Terriers’ foothold in the game lasted less than 45 seconds. Inti Antunez scored JU’s third in the 24th minute and Mohamed Soumah essentially put the game to bed with a left-footed strike that was an exclamation on a free-flowing move that began when the Dolphins dispossessed Wofford in midfield. Nick Mair’s 55th minute goal ended the scoring.
