Seminoles, UCF ranked in Aug. 31 national poll

Florida State conceded its first goal of the season in its first road game of the season; but, the Seminoles were not going to lose a match when playing in co-captain Jaelin Howell’s backyard.

Florida State’s 2-1 win over Colorado on Aug. 29 helped the Seminoles improve to 4-0-0. Tuesday, the Seminoles remained No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, earning 32 of a possible 34 votes.

Mark Krikorian is inching closer to his 500th all-time win and 300th win at Florida State. The 17th year coach is 488-135-57 in his career and 293-67-32 at Florida State heading into Thursday night’s home contest against winless Florida (0-3-1). Florida State has won three straight in the series that is tied at 13 wins apiece.

Central Florida (2-1) moved up one spot to No. 18 following a 1-1 week where the Knights beat Florida in Gainesville, but lost at home to undefeated Louisiana State on Aug. 29. The Knights will leave the state for the first time this season on Thursday night when the travel to face Ohio State (2-2).

USF fell out of the poll following Louisiana State’s smash-and-grab victory over the Bulls on Aug. 26. Denise Schilite-Brown’s team has a chance to jump right back into the poll if it can earn a win over No. 22 Tennessee on Thursday night.

There are no Division I men’s programs ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. No. 13 UCF fell out following a humbling 4-0 home loss to Florida International on Aug. 26.
