The Duval County public school champions are one step closer to becoming the first Jacksonville public school to win a FHSAA state soccer title. Mandarin (16-3) used a 77th minute goal from freshman Tyler Tilden to eliminate St. Johns Bartram Trail in a Region 1-7A semifinal.

Bartram Trail (8-6-4) entered the game in its best form of the season. The Bears played their way into the postseason, finishing 6-1-2 down the stretch and during the district playoffs. One of those wins was a 3-2 overtime victory over Mandarin in a District 1-7A semifinal on Jan. 31.

Bartram Trail used its prowess on set pieces and aerial ability to tie the game, but the hosts had enough in the tank to find the game-winning goal.

Mandarin will host St. Johns Creekside in Wednesday’s regional final. Creekside beat the Mustangs on Jan. 19. But, Mandarin has already shown it will not let previous results dictate their playoff fate.
