Inter Miami is in the best form of its nascent history. The Herons came from behind to beat Atlanta United 2-1 at DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday afternoon via a pair of superb goal contributions from in-form forward Leo Campana.
Inter Miami (3-4-1, 10 points) has won three straight MLS matches. Sunday’s victory came after the club’s victory over Miami FC in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night.
Campana is in a purple patch. His golazo helped Inter Miami equalize. His second half unselfishness set up Bryce Duke’s game-winner in the 64th minute. The Ecuadorian international has five goals and two assists in Inter Miami’s winning streak.
Miami may have won, but the Herons certainly have plenty to clean up before they travel to face reigning Supporters Shield winners New England Revolution (2-5-1, 8 points) on April 30.
Atlanta had 20 shots —as did Seattle in Inter Miami’s 1-0 win on April 16 – put seven on target and strode out of DRV PNK Stadium with a 2.1 expected goals, but lost.
Inter Miami remains below the red line in MLS’ Eastern Conference a quarter of the way through the season. Picking up a road win in Foxborough against a struggling New England Revolution side is the type of result that the best clubs snatch with little remorse.
