Perennial powers Tampa Jesuit, Plantation American Heritage are atop Class 5A, statewide ranking
By Official Florida FC
The FHSAA released its first boys soccer rankings of the 2022-23 varsity season back on Dec. 19.
The statewide Top 10 features a number of familiar programs.
Seven-time state champion Tampa Jesuit is the No. 1 overall team in the state with a perfect 10-0-0 record. The Tigers have outscored opponents 38-3 in matches thus far this season. Another seven-time state champion, Plantation American Heritage is closely behind in second. The Patriots have played the fifth-toughest schedule in the state thus far, with victories over Ransom Everglades (1-0, Nov. 22) and Archbishop McCarthy (3-2, Dec. 7).
Of course, leading the state doesn’t mean much now. Port Orange Spruce Creek was the top team in Florida for most of last season and was bounced in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs as the No. 1 seed in its region.
Jacksonville Mandarin appears to be the top team in Northeast Florida this year. The Mustangs, Class 7A state semifinalists in 2022 and No. 4 in the initial statewide rankings, were undefeated when the rankings were released.
