The United States knows two of its three opponents for the group stage of this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup. The confederation announced Friday that the 2021 champions will face Jamaica and Nicaragua in Group A.
French Guiana, Sint Maarten,Curaçao or Saint Kitts and Nevis will be the final team in Group A. Those four countries will compete in the first round of the tournament. Two will advance to the second round. The winner earns a berth in Group A. Tentatively, all three matches are slated for Fort Lauderdale’s DRV PNK Stadium; however, final fixtures have yet to be announced.
The USMNT won the 2021 Gold Cup without allowing a goal from open play. Current No. 1 Matt Turner established himself in that tournament, posting five clean sheets in six matches.
“I think Jamaica is a really tough team and our previous experience in this competition tells us that there are no easy opponents and every game is complicated,” USMNT head coach Anthony Hudson said in a statement. “As we know, these teams are improving every year, and that’s good for everyone.”
