FIU and Florida State were the only two teams from the Sunshine State to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Division I women’s soccer tournament.

Following the first day of action in the 64-team tournament, only the Seminoles remain.

Auburn 4, FIU 1

FIU’s fantastic season ended with a 4-1 loss to Auburn on Friday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

Catherine Rapp’s 80th minute goal was a consolation for the Panthers (13-5-2). Rapp’s fourth of the season cut the deficit to 3-1. Auburn’s Hayden Colson’s 83rd minute goal was assisted by Jacksonville Bolles alumna Olivia Candelino.

Nevertheless, FIU had a season to remember. The Panthers finished 13-5-2; won the Conference USA regular season title; earned the program’s first Conference USA Tournament title and clinched a first NCAA Tournament berth in 13 years.

Florida State 8, Samford 0

Jordynn Dudley’s penchant for scoring big goals in big games continued on Friday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

The sophomore forward scored in the eighth minute to help the No. 1 ranked Seminoles kick off their run to a second straight national championship. Dudley finished with two goals and two assists in 46 minutes.

Dudley turned provider for the Seminoles’ second. Carissa Boeckmann scored her first goal of the season in the 14th minute.

From there, the Seminoles were unlikely to be challenged.

Marianyela Jimenez, Solai Washington, Olivia Lebdaoui, Wrianna Hudson and Ashlyn Puerta all scored for Florida State. Goalkeeper Addie Todd did not have to make a save in the 63 minutes she was between the pipes.

Florida State is unbeaten in its last nine matches.

The Seminoles (15-2-3) will host Vanderbilt (10-3-6) on Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. EST. Vanderbilt eliminated Lipscomb 4-1 via a goal and assist from Orlando resident Courtney Jones.
