By Official Florida FC

The FHSAA soccer season is racing toward the district playoffs.

Each Tuesday, after the FHSAA releases its official rankings, Official Florida FC will share which programs are the best in the Sunshine State.

While little more than regular season bragging rights are at stake, the FHSAA rankings are a good indicator of which teams will host once regional tournaments kick off in February.

There is a new statewide No. 1 despite the fact that the top two teams in the first rankings of the season did not play over the holiday break.

Unbeaten Pensacola Washington has conceded just five times in 11 matches this season. The Wildcats have a solid chance to finish the regular season unbeaten. Washington’s last five scheduled matches include a team it has beaten by seven, a winless team, as well as another program it has beaten by five goals.

The statewide No. 1 ranking may be a hollow recognition. Only two of the previous five programs that ended the season as the statewide No. 1 wound up winning a state championship.
