Expected goals are not goals. Miami and Chicago, the two teams that were at the bottom of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference in goals scored last season, kicked off their 2022 campaign with a scoreless draw in South Florida on Saturday night.
Both Miami and Chicago scored 36 times in 34 matches last season. Saturday, both had opportunities to break the deadlock. The Fire were denied by a trio of stellar saves from Inter Miami’s new keeper Clement Diop. Meanwhile, Inter Miami forward Leonardo Campana hit the crossbar with a first-half header and should have done better with a golden opportunity in the second half.
Inter Miami (0-0-1, 1 point) travels to Austin (1-0-0, 3 points) on March. 6
