The United States women’s national team revealed its roster for the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

“Selecting a World Cup team is a long process, and I want to thank the players – the ones that made the final team and the ones that didn’t – for all of their hard work over the past two and a half years,” said U.S. women’s national team coach Jill Ellis in a statement posted on ussoccer.com. “They all pushed each other in every training session and every game and challenged the coaches to make some tough decisions. These 23 players have been through adversity and success, and it’s a group that has the talent, confidence, experience and desire to help us win the World Cup.”

Floridians on 2019 USWNT World Cup roster

Ellis, a Miami resident, selected a roster that includes 11 Women’s World Cup debutants. Of the 23 players on the roster, only three have ties to the Sunshine State:

  • Orlando Pride defender Ali Krieger , who has only made one appearance for the national team in the last two years, made the roster as a defender.
  • Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan, who will make her third Women’s World Cup roster. She has scored in a World Cup final and scored three goals in seven appearances for the USWNT this calendar year.
  • Satellite Beach native and Orlando Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, who was a reserve on the 2015 team that won the Women’s World Cup.

Krieger’s inclusion means nine of the starting XI in the 2015 Women’s World Cup final made the 2019 roster. A complete rundown of the USWNT 2019 Women’s World Cup roster can be found on ussoccer.com.

U.S. Soccer noted the roster will not become official until May 24 deadline for submission to FIFA. However, barring injury, these are the 23 women who will represent the United States ass it tries to retain its title for the first time.
